A special message to those in General Manufacturing

Not Just for Photography
Many of the zig-align products for photography, especially the LED module (ZD1) used with either the video tap (ZTV) or scope (ZO1), are also suitable for applications other than photography. Zig-align products create extremely accurate and sensitive alignment patterns that are made from repeated images, and these patterns are generic. The only reason this site is primarily a photo site is that I am most familiar with the subject of photography.

Zig-align has removed the idea of checking and achieving parallelism from the sole realm of the alignment technician. It is now reasonable, accurate, inexpensive, and easy for anyone to use these products on assembly lines, for R&D, for demonstrations, and a whole "raft" of applications in sales.

zig-align Compared to Lasers
A laser interferometer that splits the light beam and measures phase difference when the beams recombine is more accurate, but it is radically more expensive than zig-align products, which range from $500 to $2000. Current working distance is between 3 inches and 35 feet. Errors of 0.001" over two feet (error is much less at 35 feet) are obvious.

Our existing products show flatness, axial, and angular alignment, and it is easy to calibrate ZTV for specific applications. Zig-align welcomes the challenge of adapting its products to your requirements for registering a module and a mirror to planes other than those in photography.

This site offers you a case study on how photographers benefit from accurate, precise, and easy-to-view parallelism. If you also have a need for parallel planes and are intrigued by what you read, please give me a call during business hours in California at 650-324-3704.

Sincerely,

Bill Ziegler
