A Special Message to Photo Equipment Manufacturers
We at zig-align sincerely hope this site will inspire manufacturers of
enlargers, view cameras, printers, and copy stands to design and produce
equipment that is user-friendly to alignment by photographers.
The Inevitability of Degraded Performance
Many products used by photographers are well designed. But after the products
are designed, the process of degradation begins. Degradation is unavoidable
and should not be considered as a design or manufacturing flaw. Degradation
is normal, but dealing with it is the responsibility of the end user.
The rigors of use and age act to modify original design. Preservation
of original function is possible only if the end user checks and, if necessary,
is able to adjust the equipment.
Parallelism and Product Performance
I was a professional photographer for twenty years and wrestled with the problem of degradation many times. In the process, I learned a great deal about parallelism and its importance. I especially recommend your reading The Basics and Advanced Topics in the Parallelism section of our Web site.
If you would like to discuss parallelism, please give me a call during business hours in California at 650-324-3704.
Sincerely,
Bill Ziegler
